Jumping Jacks



Jumping Jacks, also known as the side straddle-hop, are a warm-up exercise whose purpose is to increase the flow of oxygen to your muscles.

This exercise is great because it involve the whole body. Find a space where you can jump and reach without bumping into anything.

  • Stand with your feet side by side and arms down at your sides.
  • Looking straight ahead with your abdominal muscles tight, jump up, moving your legs and arms at the same time.
  • Your feet should move apart about three or four feet and your arms should move from your sides to straight up above your head in a wide arching pattern.
  • Then, with another jump, return to the starting position.
  • Squeeze exercise into your busy day. There are numerous, simple ways to integrate exercises into your daily routine without missing a beat in your busy life. Whether you’re at the office, at home, or in the car, there’s always time for exercise.

    Of course, jumping jacks, jumping rope, rebounding, bouncing, alone aren't going to make you a powerhouse of health. They get the blood pumping and make you think that movement is fun. As adults, we consider so many things a chore, because we've convinced ourselves that, if we're not sitting down watching a screen, or stuffing our faces or drinking, then we're not having fun. We've convinced ourselves that those are the only appropriate entertainments for adults. Why not get back into some of the things you enjoyed as a kid? Let's change our mindset.
