Healthy Living Tips

Research shows that incorporating daily healthy living tips
can make a big difference in your health over time.
By doing a little every week to improve your health,
you will notice a big improvement in your
overall sense of well-being.

HERE ARE SOME EXAMPLES OF HEALTHY LIVING TIPS
that will be the start of your baby steps to healthier living.

  • Did you know that the typical fast food strawberry milkshake contains 59 ingredients, including 40 different chemicals, but does not contain any strawberries or milk?
  • Deep sleep rejuvenates you. When you receive adequate sleep, you will look and feel better.
  • Remember to scrub your hands thoroughly several times a day. Up to 80% of all colds, flu and other common illnesses are spread through touching.
  • If you fall in love with fresh fruits and vegetables, and incorporate a wide range of them in your diet, you will naturally decrease fat intake and reduce health risks.
  • A study conducted at the Veteran's Affairs Medical Center in Salt Lake City found that mild exercise like walking after meals, moved food through the stomach faster and helped relieve minor indigestion.
  • Ask yourself, how healthy am I? Do I incorporate elements of health in my life; fresh air, pure water, whole food, exercise, rest and sleep, deep breathing, sunshine and peace?
  • The best time to drink water is 15-30 minutes before a meal or 2 hours after a meal. Too much liquid with meals will wash out the hydrochloric acid, digestive juices and enzymes in your stomach and intestines and delay digestion.
  • Dark chocolate is very high in antioxidants. To ensure you receive the most benefit from dark chocolate purchase bars that are low in sugar, contain at least 60% cocoa, organic ingredients and no diary products.

  • Cross Training is a great way to promote optimum fitness. An example of cross training is aerobics on Monday, weight training on Wednesday and Yoga on Friday.
  • To curb your hunger before and between meals, snack on low calorie, high water content vegetables, such as greens, carrots, tomatoes and cucumbers.

Living healthier and incorporating healthy living tips, doesn't have to be complicated, boring or time consuming.

How much do you know about what makes up a healthy lifestyle? You don't have to belong to a fitness center or live on wheat grass to be healthy. The idea that good health can come in small steps is not new. There is research showing that making small changes with healthy living tips can add up to a big difference.

For example, a study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine in 2004 found that adding just 30 minutes of walking per day was enough to prevent weight gain and encourage moderate weight loss.

What if 30 minutes is still too big a bite? Another study, published in Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, found that three brisk 10-minute walks per day were as effective as a daily 30-minute walk in decreasing risk factors for heart disease.

"Just the act of going from sedentary to moderately active gives you the greatest reduction in your risks," says Helene Glassberg, MD, director of the Preventive Cardiology and Lipid Center at the Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia.

Doing something, no matter how small, is infinitely better for you than doing nothing. From rolling out of bed in the morning to rolling back in at night, from your drive to work to your daily activities, there are numerable ways to sneak health and fitness tips into your daily routine.

If you allow yourself to make small changes, they will add up to significant changes in the quality of your diet, your physical activity, how you deal with stress, and in the quality of your sleep. Those four things comprise an absolutely powerful health alternative that can change your life.

But it's not only in fitness where small changes can make a difference. Reducing fat intake, cutting way down on sugar, eating a piece of fruit instead of a candy bar, over time, can make a difference.

As long as the changes are moving you toward your goal -- be it weight loss, a reduction in cholesterol or blood pressure, or better blood sugar control -- you can get there by taking baby steps with our health and fitness tips. Making small changes can help give us the motivation to make bigger ones.

Experts agree the key to health and fitness is the time-tested advice of balance, variety and moderation.
