  • As Americans, we need the benefits of physical activity and exercise because we are eating more and exercising less. Our society today is going to restaurants or fast food places as a regular occurrence instead of the rare treat that it use to be. And with the “supersize” me servings, it’s no wonder we are an overweight society. If we go to a restaurant and are given small portions, we grumble. And the lack of exercise has come about since the occurrence of television and computers. We sit way too much! You don’t have to work up to a big sweat at the gym or become a long distance runner.

    Experts say because we don't reap the benefits of physical activity, it contributes to some 300,000 deaths each year in the United States which causes heart disease, stroke, diabetes and other conditions.The benefits of physical activity are extremely important for long term health and well being, especially rebounding! Want to feel better, have more energy and perhaps even live longer? Look no further than old fashioned exercise.

    And when we are depressed, what do the majority of us reward ourselves with? Food! This would be okay if we made good choices of fruit and vegetables but it usually ends up being unhealthy snacks and sweets. Only one in seven Americans exercises enough and eats enough fruits and vegetables. We need the benefits of physical activity and exercise because results show a critical need to promote a healthy diet high in fruits and vegetables daily and getting people to move more with some form of fun exercise. And when you combine both healthy eating and physical activity with a pharmaceutical grade multi-vitamin, you have the best of chance to have a healthy lifestyle.

    Get OFF THAT COUCH and start to move someway, somehow, any which way, as long as you do something! You will definitely feel the benefits of physical activity!

    Another reason we do not reap the benefits of physical activity and exercise is, according to a survey, what keeps many people from starting an exercise program can be summed up in one word -- embarrassment. They don’t join health clubs, fitness centers or gyms because they feel they have too many jiggles or rolls or whatever and compare themselves to the others working out. Well, guess what...you have to start somewhere!

    And it also has to do with perception. How do you perceive yourself? If you keep picturing and thinking yourself as the overweight, unhealthy person, that is what you will be. How about changing that picture and thought to how you want to be and aim for that. Change your thoughts. If you think exercising is boring, it will be.

    Tell yourself that you are going to have FUN with your exercise or physical activity. Give yourself variety. Doing something is better than doing nothing. Gradually you will start getting your energy back, you will lose weight and your self esteem will be better.

    And don’t weigh yourself everyday or let the scale hold you hostage. Once you start feeling the benefits of exercise, you will be gaining muscle and losing fat...and muscle weighs more. If you need to weigh yourself, do it once a month. Or better yet, go by the way your clothes feel.

    Just keep in mind that it is not going to happen overnight.
